3 Months Old And Counting...

Here we are on the last day Fall, exactly 3 months away from the last day of Summer. And Iris's birthday.

It is truly amazing how fast this time flies! And yet so many changes are happening! This past month had several new beginnings:

Iris is starting to feed independently- making the transition from absolutely rejecting the bottle for hours to taking mere moments before sucking down 4 ounces in 5 minutes without stopping... This will come in handy in a few weeks when Mama D goes back to work!

Iris is starting to move independently- she is learning that arching her back laying down can roll her over on her side. As soon as she learns how to get the bottom arm out of the way, she'll be rolling over completely! When we give her "tummy time" she is able to pick her head up an hold it there, looking around. Also, she is just starting to curl her legs under her- how long until she crawls? And her arms are starting to reach for things, not with much coordination, but reaching out nonetheless. She has a little bug tucked on the side of her changing table that she usually tries to grab..

Iris is starting to communicate- Two months ago she started smiling. Now she responds to requests to stick out her tongue.. And sometime around our trip to Florida less than 2 weeks ago, Iris started babbling. A lot. She's discovered that her voice has some middle ground between silence and crying! We've heard her wake up at 4 AM and just babble to herself for an hour and go back to sleep. It is also a sign (we think) of tiredness. She really babbles when she gets the hiccups:

Iris is starting to sleep- Last night was a new record, with her sleeping from 9:30 PM solid through 5:30 AM. We've tried a lot of different approaches, some nights letting her sleep in her swing for a couple of hours during her last nap, and others putting her straight into the crib and crying for 30 minutes or more.. All I know is that tonight we're going to do exactly what we did last night..!

Soon the holidays will be upon us; lots of family and friends coming from out of town, some to meet Iris for the first time, and staying here through the New Year. We'll try and capture as many of those moments as possible for everyone else to see!

Take care and enjoy the new videos and photos..

I think James is in love... He just watched Iris in the mini-screen and smiled and talked to her.... And he giggled when she got the hiccups...he must think it's funny that other babies get them, too!
